In the areas of energy and waste management we not only employ new technologies but also support the proper use of valuable resources.
The investigation of renewable energy sources and the promotion of technological innovation are important elements of sustainable development. The sensitive use of non-renewable resources completes this responsible approach.
The investigation of renewable energy sources and the promotion of technological innovation are important elements of sustainable development. The sensitive use of non-renewable resources completes this responsible approach.
Therefore, it is important for MPREIS to reduce its energy consumption through efficient energy management and the use of new technologies. Motion detectors in rarely used rooms or energy efficient ventilation systems in refrigerator units are examples of concrete measures that help save energy. Geothermal heat pumps are used for heating and in all MPREIS markets, waste heat from cooling systems is used as a source of energy.
With the help of new technologies, MPREIS will increasingly promote the responsible use of energy in the future.
MPREIS received the certificate for “Sustainable Business Management” from the regional government of Tyrol and the economic chamber and set a new example of environmental responsibility with its 20 kWp photovoltaic system on the roof of the central warehouse in Völs.
With a surface area of 160m2, this system produces 18.800 kWh of energy per year – this value corresponds to the energy consumption of five single family houses.
The environmentally friendly energy production of this unit reduces CO2 emissions in Tyrol by 10 tons.
Apart from petroleum, which is used for energy production, many other valuable resources are economically exploited. Sustainable use of these resources can be achieved through energy efficiency as well as through waste avoidance, waste separation and recycling. A sensitive use of our environment means avoiding unnecessary landfills and emissions.
Just like any other Austrian business with more than 100 staff, MPREIS employs a waste management consultant who is responsible for waste avoidance, recycling and waste disposal. The company’s waste management is based on a specially developed, individual concept. Constant further development of this concept permits reacting to legal and technical changes and keeping residual waste to a minimum.
MPREIS tries to actively minimize residual waste together with its suppliers. This goal can be achieved, for instance, through avoiding unnecessary packaging or through the use of reusable fruit crates instead of disposable ones. Furthermore, the entire MPREIS staff at all levels are encouraged to collect recyclable materials and separate them from residual waste.
Finally, recyclable materials such as cardboard, wood or plastics are collected at the MPREIS head office in special recycling containers. Particularly in the individual markets, waste separation helps to significantly reduce the amount of residual waste and thus the environmental impact of landfills. Consistent collection of recyclable materials not only reduces environmental pollution but also secures jobs in the recycling industry.
